Superbowl time. What a silly game. On average less then 11 minutes of actually play time in an NFL game, yet it’s on TV all day long. Bring on the commercials.

    Nativity

The youth in our ward put on a Living Nativity last week. What this really means is that Jamie and I were at the church most of the entire week herding the kids into their groups, helping out where we could, and generally just hanging around.

The kids did a great job and it everyone loved it. If you saw the practices you would be amazed (like we are) that it all came off so well. Watching teenagers practice this stuff is not a pretty endeavor. The actual production was a great thing.

    Found Picture of Pres. Monson

12 Nov 2009, originally uploaded by chillylint.

This is a very cool picture of President Monson that I found wandering the internet today. (Make sure you click on the picture above to read the photographer’s comments and to see her other shots) It was taken by “Chillylint” who has a blog at Chillygator that I haven’t fully checked out yet. It seems that she is a photographer at night – much like me – and I really like her “Photo a Day” project shots that she has been working on for what looks like a few years now.

I don’t know much about her, but I like this picture.

    Fritz’s Trains and Kansas City

We traveled to Kansas City last week for part deux of the Emily and Kiel Wedding saga. They had a reception there that was great. A beautiful place and lots of friends and family from their side of the world.

The weather was hot, hot, hot. Did I say hot?? Anyway, before the reception we went into Kansas City and toured the Negro League Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Jazz Museum. It was fun to listen to Ella with Sam – remember her middle name is Ella after THE Ella. She enjoyed it and I like doing it with her.

We also went to Fritz’s Train Restaurant. Jamie’s parents tried to take us here when they were on the Mission in the area, but the line was too long. Basically it is a hot dog and hamburger place for kids where toy trains deliver you food (except for drinks and chili). Surprisingly the food was really good. Simple hot dogs and hamburgers but very good. The trains were fun too. Anyway I took a few pictures of the kids while waiting in line so I’ll put them up here.

Look for updates on the reception pictures and SLC and Ogden coming . . . .

This is a pretty harsh photo I used of Kiel in my photoblog. See it there as well.

Jenny Singing at the Rehearsal Dinner

This is just one reason why I love my new camera. Full HD video ability. You never know when cuteness will strike.

This is at Wood Ranch BBQ for Emily and Kiel’s rehearsal dinner. Jenny just decided to break out in song.

The Full Emily and Kiel Video

Okay, now I can post this for anyone to see. We wanted it to be a surprise for Kiel, Emily and the family. Now that they have seen it all is good.

It is a bit long, that is why I’m putting it here and not on the photography site. I assume only family will really want to see it. 13 minutes of fun for family and friends.

    The music:

“Wondering Where You Are” – Tyrone Wells
“Sleeping To Dream” – Jason Mraz
    “Divide Me” – Kalai

(If the video seems slow, make sure you have HD turned off by clicking the button. HD looks better, but it is a pretty big file to stream.)

    Enjoy . . . .

    The Last Time

It was Sammy’s last time to sing, “I’m So Glad When Daddy Comes Home” yesterday. Since it is not proper to take pictures in sacrament meeting I obviously could not get a picture of the event. I will admit that I did cheat a little. But I’m so subtle, not even Sam know I took this picture. Years from now I will remember this day and the reason I took this picture.

Let’s review prior years of this event. We have the year of “inappropriate scratching and touching”. The year of “jumping up to make her heals touch her butt uncontrollably”. The year of her “eyes rolling back in her head”. The year of the “look up and away to the left”. Did I leave anything out? I mentioned the inappropriate touching right?

Over the years Sam has been fun to watch get up in front of the ward and sing and do who knows what else. You never knew what you were going to get. She has grown into a beautiful young lady now. All I got from her yesterday was the embarrassed “I’m too old for this, why am I up here” laugh.

As it should be I guess.

    Letter From Home

Anyone who knows me knows I love Pat Metheny. With all the awards he has recieved I still believe him to be under rated as a great jazz guitarist. Too many see him as “smooth jazz” or “adult contempary” which to me is very sad.

Anyway – that is not the point of this post. This is all about math and probabilities.

On my iPhone right now I don’t have as much music as i have on my iPod, but it still has a healthy amount of music. There is a total of 645 songs on my iPhone. Three of those are the song “Letter From Home” by Pat Metheny. There is the one off of the the album of the same name, the one performed live off of the album “Road to You”, and one performed with a Polish singer named Anna Maria Jopek on the album titled, “Upjoenie”.

Let’s assume that I tell my iPhone to Shuffle all songs and listen to all my music randomly. Let’s further assume that apple programed the “shuffle” routine to not repeat songs until everything has played. I’m not sure they did that or not, but it is pretty rare to hear a song repeat. The question is, what are the chances that I would hear “Letter from Home” as the first three songs in my shuffle.

This is not just a hypothetical, it happened. It happened at the gym on the treadmill.

For it to randomly play as the first song the odds would be 1 out of 645. To be the second song it would be 1 our of 644, and for it to play as song three it would be 1 out of 643. The chances of all of that happened together would be the product of all of those odds.

Using the HP12C program on my iPhone it seems to me the odds would be 1 out of approximately (lots of rounded going on here) 4,000,000,000. Pretty cool.
